Tigers Power Rankings Roundup: Week 21
Below is a graph of where the Tigers have ranked over the course of the season.
And here is what Power Rankers are saying about the Tigers this week:
Tigers ranked 12th - "Hanging around, hanging around, the Tigers have alligator blood. Their schedule for the remainder of the year puts their fate in their hands, as they alternate between games against losing teams and games against their chief division rivals, the Royals and Indians. If the Tigers finally get hot, winning the AL Central might be easier than catching a wild card."
Tigers ranked 14th - In Jonah Keri’s weekly power rankings he selects four teams to write about. Although your team was not chosen this week, Jonah’s work is well worth the read.
Tigers ranked 13th - "Can they beat up on Twins, Angels this week?"
Tigers ranked 14th - "The Detroit Tigers surged up the rankings with a 10-1 stretch of games that included an eight-game winning streak, but they've followed that up with a 4-10 performance that has them once again trending in the wrong direction.
Getting swept by the Kansas City Royals last week was a big blow, as their lead over the Royals for second in the AL Central has now shrunk to just one game.
Consistency at the back of the starting rotation remains one of the biggest issues, with Anibal Sanchez serving as the model of inconsistency.
Here's a look at his last three starts:
- Aug. 7 vs. NYM: 8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
- Aug. 12 vs. TEX: 4.0 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
- Aug. 17 vs. KC: 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Sanchez is capable of being a real X-factor in the team't hunt for a playoff spot if he can find a way to avoid those starts where it looks like he's pitching batting practice."
Tigers ranked 12th - "I didn't like last week. The Kitties lost five of seven, playing especially poorly against Kansas City (outscored 13-3). Why do I like this upcoming week? Because they're coming to Minnesota! That means I can hit up a game or two! This week has three in Minnesota and 3 at home against the Angees."
