Yankees Power Rankings Roundup: Week 21
Below is a graph of where the Yankees have ranked over the course of the season.
And here is what Power Rankers are saying about the Yankees this week:
Yankees ranked 16th - "It was an ugly few days for the pitching staff earlier in the week against Toronto, but the Yankees rebounded to take two of three from the Angels over the weekend. It's hard to tell how much this team is trying to win day to day, but the young players such as Judge, Sanchez and now Chad Greenand Luis Cessa are performing well in the opportunities they've been given. If the veterans can keep up, this team might actually contend."
Yankees ranked 17th - In Jonah Keri’s weekly power rankings he selects four teams to write about. Although your team was not chosen this week, Jonah’s work is well worth the read.
Yankees ranked 17th - "Have they started the "Sanchize" headlines for Gary Sanchez yet?"
Yankees ranked 15th - "The New York Yankees have been sparked here in August by an influx of young talent, going 11-8 on the month and remaining in the wild-card hunt even after selling at the trade deadline.
After what felt like decades as one of the team's top prospects, catcher Gary Sanchez is finally getting an extended look at the MLB level, and to say he's impressed would be an understatement.
The 23-year-old is hitting .386/.435/.789 with five doubles, six home runs and 12 RBI in 15 games since being recalled from the minors on Aug. 3.
"When I came up, my mentality was to work hard," Sanchez told reporters. "They have given me the opportunity to play every day, which I really enjoy. It’s given me an edge and it’s giving me good results right now."
The Yankees will never completely blow up their roster to rebuild, but the promotion of Sanchez along with Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin signals a changing of the guard of sorts as they start to work more young talent into the core."
Yankees ranked 18th - "His name is Gary Sanchez."
