Phillies Power Rankings Roundup: Week 9
Below is a graph of where the Phillies have ranked over the course of the season.
And here is what Power Rankers are saying about the Phillies this week:
Phillies ranked 19th - "The Phillies faced their toughest opponent so far this year, the Cubs, and were promptly swept. The problem is still the poor offense. In their last 15 games, the Phillies have scored five runs only twice. The schedule is soft enough that they could still finish the first half above .500, so they've got some time left to take batting practice."
Phillies ranked 18th - In Jonah Keri’s weekly power rankings he selects four teams to write about. Although your team was not chosen this week, Jonah’s work is well worth the read.
Phillies ranked 17th - "Rotation ranks in the top 10 in ERA, strikeouts, shutouts and batting average against."
Phillies ranked 16th - "Is this the beginning of the end for the Philadelphia Phillies' surprise run at contending in 2016?
With a series loss to the Detroit Tigers and a sweep at the hands of the Chicago Cubs, the upstart Phillies are now 2-7 in their last nine games after starting the season 24-17.
A negative run differential that currently stands at minus-43 was always a sign of an impending regression, and a lack of offensive firepower has been their biggest issue, as their .653 OPS as a team ranks 28th in the league.
That takes nothing away from their terrific start, though, as this team was expected to reside near the bottom of these rankings for the entirety of 2016.
Even if they're coming back to earth, it's an exciting time to be a Phillies fan, with a good young core exceeding expectations and an impressive wave of prospect talent expected to arrive in the majors as 2016 progresses."
