Rangers Power Rankings Roundup: Week 9
Below is a graph of where the Rangers have ranked over the course of the season.
And here is what Power Rankers are saying about the Rangers this week:
Rangers ranked 8th - "Yu Darvish is back, and he looks as good as ever. Pitching in his first major league game since 2014, Darvish threw five innings while allowing only one run and striking out seven Pirates. A healthy Darvish should provide a strong boost to the rest of the Texas pitching staff."
Rangers ranked 8th - In Jonah Keri’s weekly power rankings he selects four teams to write about. Although your team was not chosen this week, Jonah’s work is well worth the read.
Rangers ranked 6th - "Yu Darvish dazzles in return from Tommy John elbow surgery."
Rangers ranked 3rd - "The Texas Rangers were one of just three teams to spend each of the past six weeks inside of the top 10 in these rankings. They extend that streak to seven weeks after picking up series wins over the Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Already the best starting rotation in the American League with a 3.49 ERA, the Rangers welcomed back ace Yu Darvish last week.
In his first start since August 9, 2014, Darvish went five innings and allowed three hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out seven.
Catcher Bobby Wilson had only good things to say about Darvish when talking to reporters after the game:
It was about as electric stuff as I've seen since I've been in the big leagues. It was so impressive the way he came out and pumped his heater in there -- 97 and 98 with sink -- and he threw all of his pitches.
He had a good curveball, a good slider and a good cutter, and he struck [John] Jaso out with a changeup on the last pitch he threw. When he's on the mound, the electricity in the ballpark is heightened so much. It excited everybody.
With Darvish back in the mix, the Rangers look like the team to beat in the American League."
