Power Rankings Guru Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 20, 2026

Power Rankings Guru (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates powerrankingsguru.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors and account holders (“you”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our Terms of Use.

Power Rankings Guru is an independent sports analytics site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or licensed by the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, the NCAA, any conference, team, players’ association, or any other league, tour, or governing body. This Privacy Policy covers only our collection and use of your information — it does not describe how any league, team, or other third party handles your data.

1. What We Collect

From account holders (only if you create an account)

  • Email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we never see them.
  • If you sign in with Google: your email address and basic Google profile details that Google shares (name and profile picture link). We do not get your Google password or access to your Google account.
  • Confirmation that you are 21 or older, given once at sign-up (or right after your first Google sign-in). We store only that you confirmed it, when, and the minimum age that applied. We never ask for or store your birth date or birth year.
  • The teams you follow.
  • Your email settings (which emails you want).
  • A record of emails we send you (type of email, address sent to, subject, delivery status, the email provider’s message ID, and time sent).

From all visitors, automatically

  • IP address, used to limit excessive requests and stop abuse. Stored only temporarily for rate limiting and cleared within about a day. For sign-up and sign-in limits, it is stored in a scrambled (hashed) form combined with the email address being used.
  • Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time), used for security and fixing problems.
  • Usage data through Google Analytics — see the Cookies section below.
  • Bot check on sign-up and sign-in forms (Cloudflare Turnstile), which looks at browser and device signals to distinguish people from automated bots.

We do not collect payment information, physical addresses, phone numbers, precise location, or sensitive personal information. We never ask for or store your birth date or birth year.

2. How We Use It

  • To run your account: sign-in, saving the teams you follow, showing your personalized list.
  • To send emails (see Section 3, Emails).
  • To keep the site secure: prevent abuse, spam accounts, and excessive traffic.
  • To understand how the site is used and improve it (Google Analytics, using aggregate reports).
  • To comply with the law.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.

3. Emails

  • Account emails (always sent when needed): confirming your email, password resets, email-address changes, and security notices. These cannot be turned off while you have an account.
  • Optional emails, controlled by settings in your account:
    • Team updates and alerts for teams you follow.
    • A weekly email, sent on Tuesdays.
    • News and announcements from Power Rankings Guru (marketing). This is on by default when you sign up; the setting is shown during sign-up and you can switch it off at any time.

Every optional email has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also change all email settings from your account page.

Emails are sent through our email provider (Resend) from send.powerrankingsguru.com.

4. Service Providers We Share Data With

We share data only with providers that help us run the Site, and only for that purpose:

Service providers we share data with

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.

5. Retention

  • Account data: kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your account, follows, and email settings are deleted.
  • Email records:
    • Kept in full for 1 year from the send date, then reduced to anonymous daily totals (for example, “120 weekly emails sent on this date”). The totals contain no addresses or account information.
    • When you delete your account, your email records are anonymized at the same time: the address, subject, and anything else that could identify you is removed. What remains is the type of email, when it was sent, and its delivery status.
  • “Do not email” list: if you unsubscribe, or an email to you bounces permanently, or you mark one as spam, we keep a one-way fingerprint (a cryptographic hash) of your address. It cannot be turned back into your address. We use it only to avoid emailing you again by mistake, and we keep it even after you delete your account. It never blocks account emails such as password resets. It is cleared if you sign up again and confirm your address (for a bounce), or turn optional emails back on (for an unsubscribe or spam report).
  • Our email provider (Resend) keeps its own delivery logs for 30 days.
  • Rate-limiting records: about one day.
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months.
  • Hosting logs: per our hosting provider’s standard retention.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Change email settings or unsubscribe at any time.
  • Edit your account details or delete your account from the account page.
  • Contact powerrankingsguru@gmail.com to ask what data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by blocking cookies.
  • Do Not Track: the Site does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.

California residents: the Site does not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under California law. If you are a California resident, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, as described above. Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link or related opt-out process on the Site.

7. Security

We use reasonable safeguards: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls on our database, and limits on repeated sign-in attempts. No system is perfectly secure.

8. Children

Accounts are for people 21 and older; anyone can read the Site without one. The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 21, we delete it. Parents can contact powerrankingsguru@gmail.com.

9. Where Data Is Processed

The Site is operated from the United States and data is processed in the United States.

Visitors from the EU, the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland (and anyone whose country cannot be determined) see a cookie banner:

  • Google Analytics does not load, and no analytics cookies are set, unless the visitor clicks Accept. Reject is just as prominent, and the Site works the same either way.
  • The choice is remembered on that device for 6 months, then the banner asks again.
  • A Cookie settings link in the footer reopens the banner, so the choice can be changed or withdrawn at any time. Withdrawing deletes the _ga cookies.

Visitors elsewhere get Google Analytics without a banner, as described in the Cookies section below.

For visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland specifically:

  • Legal basis for processing: consent for analytics cookies; performance of a contract for accounts and account emails; legitimate interests for security and abuse prevention (rate limiting, bot checks, server logs); and consent for optional marketing emails.
  • Your rights: you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to our use of it, to request data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (for example, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office). Contact powerrankingsguru@gmail.com.
  • International transfer: your data is processed in the United States. Our service providers use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

10. Changes and Contact

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will reflect the most recent changes. If we make a material change, we will notify account holders by email.

Questions about this Privacy Policy can be sent to powerrankingsguru@gmail.com.
